The City Council may call a special City election for the purpose of voting on an initiative, referendum or recall petition pursuant to AS 29.26.100 through 29.26.190 and AS 29.26.240 through 29.26.360 or for other purposes which the Council may ordain. The notice shall state the purpose of the election and the time and place for the casting of ballots. At least 20 days’ notice must be given for each special election. [Code 1979 § 5.2.]
