A. OVERVIEW

1. Description and Purpose The following policy describes wage garnishments for the City of Saint Paul (City).

2. Applicability This policy applies to all employees of the City.

3. Failure to Comply Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action in accordance with any and all disciplinary policies of the City.

B. POLICY AND PROCEDURE

1. Wage Garnishments

a. The city must adhere to legally imposed wage garnishments and will not modify the terms of those legal arrangements unless ordered to by a court.

b. The City will notify the employee when court-ordered deductions are to be taken from their paycheck.

c. The City acts in accordance with federal Consumer Credit Protection Act, which places restrictions on the total amount that may be garnished from a paycheck. The

d. City will deduct nominal administrative costs allowed by statute of complying with wage garnishment orders.
